THE CURVE FOUNDATION and NLGJA: THE ASSOCIATION OF LGBTQ+ JOURNALISTS announced that the 2024 CURVE AWARD FOR EMERGING JOURNALISTS is open for submissions. The deadline to apply is April 30. The award provides financial support to emerging journalists whose work fosters fear and accurate coverage and elevates the voices of LGBTQ+ women, trans and non-binary people. DAVID, based in Atlanta, entered its eighth year of publication with its January 3, 2024, issue.

GEORGIA VOICE, based in Atlanta, entered its 15th year of publication with its March 22, 2024, issue.

LAVENDER MAGAZINE, based in Minneapolis, published its 750th issue on February 22, 2024.

CHRISTIANA LILLY, reporter and social media manager of Wilton Manors, Fla.-based OUTSFL, and SOUTH FLORIDA GAY NEWS before that, has been named editor in chief of JES MEDIA, which publishes BOCA RATON MAGAZINE among other publications.

Ella Matthes, former publisher and editor of Lesbian News

ELLA MATTHES, former publisher and editor of Torrance, Calif.-based LESBIAN NEWS, passed away due to a heart attack on March 16, 2024. She owned the publication from 1994 until 2002. She was 81.

METROSOURCE, based in Los Angeles, entered its 35th year of publication with its February/March 2024 issue.

MONTROSE STAR, based in Houston, entered its 14th year of publication with its January 3, 2024, issue.

MICHAEL O’LOUGHLIN, a Rhode Island-based journalist and author of “Hidden Mercy: AIDS, Catholics, and the Untold Stories of Compassion in the Face of Fear,” was named the first executive director of OUTREACH, a news, opinion and resource site for LGBTQ Catholics affiliated with the Jesuit-run magazine AMERICA.

OUTFAU, an LGBTQ student newspaper covering Boca Raton-based Florida Atlantic University and published by Wilton Manors-based OUTSFL, published its first issue in January 2024 with MARY RASURA as executive editor and KENNY RUFF as assistant editor.

OUTSFL, based in Wilton Manors, Fla., entered its second year of publication with its January 4, 2024, issue. OUTSFL MAGAZINE, a separate glossy, entered its second year of publication with its February/March 2024 issue.

PRESS PASS Q, the only trade publication for professionals working in LGBTQ media, enters its 26th year of publication with this issue.

THE RAINBOW TIMES, based in Boston, entered its 16th year of publication with its January 12, 2024, issue.

SGN, formerly known as SEATTLE GAY NEWS, entered its 52nd year of publication with its January 12, 2024, issue.
