ADELANTE, based in Los Angeles, entered its 29th year of publication with its June 2025 issue.

BAY AREA REPORTER, based in San Francisco, received multiple honors at the annual California Journalism Awards from the CALIFORNIA NEWS PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION. In its division, the newspaper won first and second place in the editorial comment category; assistant editor JOHN FERRANNINI won first place in the local election 2024 category and first place in the religion and faith writing category; assistant editor MATTHEW S. BAJKO won fifth place in the sports feature category; arts contributor JIM GLADSTONE won first place in the arts and entertainment category; arts and nightlife editor JIM PROVENZANO won fourth place in the arts and entertainment category; arts contributor TIM PFAFF won first place in the film and TV writing/reporting category and third place in the music writing/reporting category; contributor BRIAN BROMBERGER won second place in the film and TV writing/reporting category; and contributor MICHAEL FLANAGAN won first place in the music writing/reporting category.

THE BUCKEYE FLAME, based in suburban Cleveland, Ohio, hired ANNA MALEFATTO as its first development director. She most recently worked as donor relations director for All-Options, a nonprofit that provides emotional support and peer counseling regarding pregnancy, parenting, abortion and adoption.

2025-2026 cohort for the Curve Fellowship for Emerging Journalists

THE CURVE FOUNDATION, publisher of CURVE MAGAZINE, announced its 2025-2026 cohort for the Curve Fellowship for Emerging Journalists, presented jointly with NLGJA: THE ASSOCIATION OF LGBTQ+ JOURNALISTS. The recipients include LAILA ANNMARIE STEVENS, a Black queer photographer and visual artist based in New York City; HADLEY GREEN, a video journalist at the Washington Post; TAYLOR BRUCK, an Emmy Award-winning and GLAAD-nominated anchor and multimedia journalist for the statewide news network, Spectrum News 1, in Ohio; MARY FRANCES MCGOWAN, a reporter for the Plain Dealer/Cleveland.com covering both statewide and county politics; and SAVANNAH RAY HUGUELEY, a Chicago-based editor and fact-checker.

GED, which stands for GAY ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTORY and is based in Long Beach, Calif., entered its 13th year of publication with its June 2025 issue.

OUTFAU, a student publication at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton and a product of Wilton Manors-based OutSFL, earned second place in the SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS 2025 Spread Immoral News (SIN) competition. The SIN contest, part of SPJ’s Ethics Week, challenges student journalists to produce a satirical issue intentionally violating the SPJ Code of Ethics.

OUTSPORTS, the national LGBTQ sports magazine based in Los Angeles, has been nominated for Outstanding Short Form Program for the 2025 Daytime Emmy Awards for its series, “Ballin’ Out.” The series tells the story of several out LGBTQ women in women’s wheelchair basketball. It centers around the tryouts and tournament for Team USA at the 2022 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships, which were held in Dubai in June 2023. The project was produced by SCOUT PRODUCTIONS and directed by MICHIEL THOMAS. It’s the first Emmy nomination for Thomas, who is himself a gay basketball player. THE RAGE MONTHLY, based in San Diego, celebrated its 18th anniversary in its June 2025 issue.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY TIMES announced that the San Francisco Public Library, which is facilitating digitization of the newspaper’s back issues, confirmed that every issue published from May 1978-June 2012 will be available to the public by the end of 2025 at https://digitalsf.org/. Issues from July 2012-present are already available online at https://sfbaytimes.com/ and https://issuu.com/sfbt.

WATERMARK OUT NEWS, based in Orlando, Fla., announced the appointment of RYAN WILLIAMS-JENT as its new editor-in-chief. He replaces JEREMY WILLIAMS, who stepped down in June 2025 to pursue new opportunities in New York City. Williams-Jent was previously the newspaper’s Central Florida bureau chief, which will now be held by new hire BELLANEE PLAZA, a former intern and recent graduate of the University of Central Florida.

WINDY CITY TIMES, based in Chicago, announced that its managing editor, JAKE WITTICH, filled in as guest host on the GAILY SHOW, billed as the only daily LGBTQ progressive radio news and talk show in the country.

WIREMAG, based in Miami, entered its 15th year of publication with its January 30, 2025, issue.
