THE ADVOCATE magazine announced the launch of THE FUTURE OF QUEER MEDIA FELLOWSHIP, a program created to identify, develop, and uplift the next generation of LGBTQ journalists. Underwritten by MORRISON MEDIA GROUP, the 16-week paid fellowship will provide early-career journalists with direct experience inside the magazine’s newsroom starting in January 2026. THE BUCKEYE FLAME, based in suburban Cleveland, Ohio, hosted “Flames & Magic on the Lake,” a cocktail party fundraiser on the shores of Lake Erie.
JONATHAN CAPEHART, the gay Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, took a buyout offer in July 2025 to leave the WASHINGTON POST after nearly 20 years. He will continue his work for PBS and MSNBC.
THE EQUALITY FORUM, based in Philadelphia, announced its list of LGBT HISTORY MONTH icons for October 2025. Icons this year include TV personality ANDY COHEN, Congressperson BECCA BAILANT (D-Vt.), historian JOHN D’EMILIO, and pop star CHAPPELL ROAN. For more information, go to https://www.lgbthistorymonth.com/ The organization also hosted its 20th anniversary of the annual month-long celebration with an awards ceremony on September 28, 2025. The event featured Congressman RITCHIE TORRES (D-N.Y.), MSNBC’s EUGENE DANIELS, BEN GARCIA of the American LGBTQ+ Museum, and philanthropist MEL HEIFETZ.
THE LOS ANGELES BLADE was honored at the inaugural PRESS PRIDE PROM awards for Southern California journalists and newsrooms on July 26, 2025. The Los Angeles Blade took home the first award of the evening, the Excellence in LGBTQ+ Reporting Newsroom Award. Another special moment for the Blade took place in the presentation of the TROY MASTERS Legacy Award for Visionaries in Media, presented in collaboration with the Blade and the Los Angeles chapter of NLGJA. The award is named in honor of Masters, the former publisher of the Los Angeles Blade, who passed away last year. This year’s winner was JOHN GRIFFITHS, founder of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics and Dorian Awards.

OUTSFL, based in Wilton Manors, Fla., and its sister publication OUTFAU, based at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, won several awards at the annual SUNSHINE STATE AWARDS, held September 6, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale. The statewide contest honors the best journalism in Florida from the previous year. OutSFL’s JOHN HAYDEN was named a finalist in the Small Town & Rural Reporting category. OutFAU earned seven awards, including first-place finishes by MARY RASURA in Opinion Column and LGBTQ+ Coverage, along with LEWIS DE BERRY in Inside Page Design. The student newspaper also received finalist honors in Special Issue, Review, Serious Feature and Front Page Design categories. CJ WALDEN, the current executive editor, was recognized in the Special Issue category.
OUTWORD, based in Sacramento, Calif., celebrated its 30th anniversary in its August 28, 2025, issue.
QUEERTY, the online magazine, celebrated its 20th anniversary in September 2025.
