SEAN CHRISTOPHER BARTEL, a veteran journalist and video producer based in Washington, D.C. as well as a driving force in the D.C. Gay Flag Football League, passed away while hiking in Argentina on or around March 15, 2026. Authorities reportedly do not suspect foul play and believe he suffered from an accident. He was 48.

CAMP REHOBOTH, the Delaware LGBTQ community center that publishes LETTERS FROM CAMP REHOBOTH, announced that Dr. ROBIN BRENNAN is the group’s new executive director.

DALLAS VOICE entered its 43rd year of publication with its May 1, 2026, issue.

LAVENDER MAGAZINE, based in suburban Minneapolis, held its annual Summer of Pride Kickoff Party on May 28, 2026.

METRO WEEKLY, based in Washington, D.C., celebrated its 32nd anniversary in its May 1, 2026, issue.

OUTFAU, the LGBTQ+ student newspaper at Boca Raton-based Florida Atlantic university owned by Wilton Manors-based OutSFL, won four awards from the FLORIDA PRESS CLUB. OutFAU founder and contributor MARY RASURA won first place in the Minority News category. Rasura, editor CJ WALDEN and LEWIS DE BERRY shared a third place prize in the Special Sections category. CARINA MASK won third place in the Feature Photo Essay category. Rasura, GABRIELA QUINTERO and CLINTON ENGELBERGER shared a third place prize in the Education News category.

OUTPBC is a new newsletter focusing on Palm Beach Country, Fla., published by Wilton Manors-based OUTSFL.

OUTSFL, based in Wilton Manors, Fla., crowned ANGIE OVAHNESS PRYCE as its third annual Mizz OutSFL on May 4, 2026, at a pageant held in Fort Lauderdale. The event was produced by OutSFL co-owner JUSTIN WYSE. Pryce replaces VELVET LENORE, who won the crown last year.

OUTSFL MAGAZINE, based in Wilton Manors, Fla., entered its fourth year of publication with its February/March 2026 issue.

JASON PARSLEY, editor of Wilton Manors, Fla.-based OUTSFL, was named by History Fort Lauderdale as one of its 2026 Take PRIDE! Honorees at the group’s May 28 gala.

Q VOICE NEWS, based in Los Angeles, received the Excellence in LGBTQ+ Reporting Newsroom award from the Los Angeles chapter of NLGJA: THE ASSOCIATION OF LGBTQ+ JOURNALISTS’ 2nd Annual Journalism Awards and Press Pride Prom gala on May 9, 2026.

QNOTES, based in Charlotte, N.C., celebrated its 40th anniversary at a party on April 26, 2026.

QVEGAS, which is based in and focuses on the city of Las Vegas, announced its next publishing venture called THE FABULOUS, a new free daily local newsroom focusing on all of Clark County. The new publication is available at thefabulous.news and will focus on the residents of Las Vegas and its suburbs, not just on information and news for tourists.

DAVE RHODES, founder and editor of the LEATHER JOURNAL, based in Los Angeles, announced that he has moved out of his Hollywood apartment, where he has lived for 41 years, and into an assisted living facility, The Lighthouse in Toluca Lake, Calif.

Former San Francisco Bay Times columnist Andrew Shorter

ANDREA SHORTER, a former columnist for the SAN FRANCISCO BAY TIMES as well as a longtime member of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women, passed away on March 19, 2026. She was 60.

THIS WAY OUT RADIO’s GREG GORDON and LUCIA CHAPPELLE were honored at the Los Angeles chapter of NLGJA: THE ASSOCIATION OF LGBTQ+ JOURNALISTS’ 2nd Annual Journalism Awards and Press Pride Prom gala on May 9, 2026. The two were awarded with the TROY MASTERS Legacy Award for Visionaries in Media, presented in collaboration with the LOS ANGELES BLADE. The award is named in honour of the veteran journalist and former publisher of the Los Angeles Blade. Chappelle accepted the award in person, as Gordon passed away earlier this year. The event is a benefit for NLGJA-LA’s LGBTQ+ youth journalism scholarship.

THE WASHINGTON BLADE’s annual Pride on the Pier party is set to take place on June 13, 2026, at The Wharf DC – District Pier.

WINDY CITY TIMES, based in Chicago, was honored on April 11, 2026, at the Center on Halsted’s annual Human First Gala with a Community Spirit Award. Managing editor JAKE WITTICH accepted the award on the publication’s behalf. Press Forward Chicago executive director and Windy City Times co-founder and owner TRACY BAIM was honored with an individual Community Spirit Award.
