MARTIN ALFARO, associate publisher of PHILADELPHIA GAY NEWS, has been named the new president of Philadelphia’s chapter of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HISPANIC JOURNALISTS.
BAY WINDOWS, based in Boston, entered its 40th year of publication with its July 25, 2024, issue.
BOBBY BLAIR, a former LGBTQ media publisher, has returned to South Florida and has struck up a partnership with Wilton Manors-based OUTSFL. Blair recently launched his weekly “BEING BOBBY BLAIR” show on the IT”S HAPPENING OUT television network with co-host KITTY MEOW. The show plans to highlight the newspaper’s work in each episode.
THE CURVE FOUNDATION, publisher of CURVE MAGAZINE, hosted a preview tour of the new virtual exhibit “30 Years of Lesbian Life in Curve Magazine” on August 22, 2024. The exhibit is being hosted by the JUNE L. MAZER LESBIAN ARCHIVES.
OUTSFL, based in Wilton Manors, Fla., won a first place award at the annual GREEN EYESHADE AWARDS, a journalism contest covering 11 states across the Southern U.S. The award was in the category of feature writing. Three writers were named, including MICHAEL ANGUILLE, SAVANNAH PEIFER and MICHAEL KORETZKY.
QSALTLAKE, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, hosted QSaltLake Day at Lagoon, a local amusement park, on August 11, 2024.
QUEERTY recently announced a new partnership with NATIVE SON, launching it as a new channel on the venerable site. Native Son founder EMIL WILBEKIN launched the channel to honour the 100th birthday of famed writer JAMES BALDWIN and to highlight a range of voices celebrating Black gay and queer men.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY TIMES announced that its lead designer BETH GREENE traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, in June to take part in this year’s Utah Pride Parade.
