TRACY BAIM, co-founder of Chicago’s WINDY CITY TIMES, has been named a community grand marshal of the 55th annual Chicago Pride Parade set for June 28, 2026.

BAY AREA REPORTER, based in San Francisco, participated in the SAN FRANCISCO INDEPENDENT MEDIA COALITION’s first congressional candidate forum on April 15, 2026, featuring candidates for California’s 11th congressional district.

LYNNE BROWN, publisher of the WASHINGTON BLADE, has been named to the 2026 CURVE MAGAZINE Power List celebrating LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary individuals in North America who are blazing trails in their chosen fields.

THE BUCKEYE FLAME, based in suburban Cleveland, Ohio, welcomed two reporting fellows covering LGBTQ Ohioans of color as part of a six-month reporting fellowship. ELIZABETH RANDOLPH-MONTGOMERY of Columbus and SIAARA FREEMAN of Cleveland will each produce 12 stories with a special focus on public health. Funding for the fellowships is made possible by grants from the Mt. Sinai Health Foundation and the Cleveland Foundation’s LGBTQ+ Opportunity Fund.

GRAB MAGAZINE, based in Chicago, entered its 17th year of publication with its January 20, 2026, issue.

KEVIN NAFF, editor of the WASHINGTON BLADE, will be inducted into D.C.’s Society of Professional Journalists Hall of Fame at the chapter’s Dateline Awards dinner on June 9, 2026, at the National Press Club. This year’s other two inductees are SETH BORENSTEIN, a Washington-based national science writer for the ASSOCIATED PRESS, and CHERYL W. THOMPSON, an award-winning correspondent for NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO.

NLGJA: THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR LGBTQ+ JOURNALISTS announced that applications for its 2026 LEROY F. AARONS Scholarship and KAY LONGCOPE Scholarship are open until May 15, 2026. The former provides up to $5,000 in tuition funding to an LGBTQ+ student who plans a career in journalism and is committed to the group’s mission of fair and accurate coverage of the LGBTQ+ community. The latter provides up to $3,000 in tuition assistance to an LGBTQ+ student of color who plans a career in journalism and is also committed to the group’s mission of fair and accurate coverage of the LGBTQ+ community. OUTFAU, the campus newspaper at Boca Raton-based Florida Atlantic University and owned by Wilton Manors-based OUTSFL, entered its fifth year of publication with its February 2026 issue.

OUTSMART, based in Houston, entered its 33rd year of publication with its February 2026 issue.

DANA PICCOLI, managing director of media collaboration NEWS IS OUT, served as coordinator of this year’s Lesbian Visibility Week, produced by the CURVE FOUNDATION, publisher of CURVE MAGAZINE.

THE SPARK, the weekly news digest from THE BUCKEYE FLAME, based in suburban Cleveland, Ohio, published its 300th edition on April 2, 2026.

THE WASHINGTON BLADE partnered with the YOUTHCAST MEDIA GROUP, funded through the FY26 Community Development Grant from the Office of D.C. Mayor MURIEL BOWSER, to support and feature work by students in the journalism program at Bard High School Early College D.C. In its April 10, 2026, issue, the newspaper published articles written by students ARIONNA DAVIS, ROSETTA THOMAS, AMBRIA MITCHELL, CARL BARBETT and EDITH MWANGI.
