BAY AREA REPORTER founding publisher BOB ROSS’ former home, located at the corner of Castro and 20th streets, is being considered by the San Francisco board of supervisors to be designated as a local landmark. Ross died in 2003 at age 69.

BOSTON SPIRIT MAGAZINE announced that JENNIFER DETTMANN, former advertising director for 10 years, passed away on January 6, 2026.
THE CURVE FOUNDATION, publisher of CURVE MAGAZINE, hosted an event on January 20, 2026, marking the 40th anniversary of the film “Desert Hearts” with director DONNA DEITCH and special guest JANE LYNCH.
GLAAD released its list of nominees for its 37th annual GLAAD Media Awards, which included a number of LGBTQ media outlets. For Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage, nominees include THE ADVOCATE, GAYE MAGAZINE, OUT, and POZ. For Outstanding Online or Print Journalism Article, nominees include CHRISTOPHER WIGGINS (The Advocate), DANIEL VILLAREAL (LGBTQNATION), DAVID CLARKE (OUTSMART MAGAZINE), and MEL WOODS (XTRA). In Outstanding Online Journalism — Video or Multimedia, nominees include “Being Out” (OUTSPORTS), “Logo Legend: JINKX MONSOON” (LOGOTV), “Pride 50 2025: Celebrate Queer Changemakers” (QUEERTY), and “Transcestors & Trailblazers: 30 Lives, 30 Legacies” (TRANSLASH). In Outstanding Independent Journalism, nominees include THE BUCKEYE FLAME, QUEER KENTUCKY, THE QUEER REVIEW, TRANS NEWS NETWORK and XTRA MAGAZINE. In Spanish language categories, HOMOSENSUAL was nominated for Outstanding Online Journalism Article and PRIDEMX was nominated for Outstanding Online Journalism — Video or Multimedia. Winners will be announced in Los Angeles on March 5, 2026.
NORM KENT, co-founder of SOUTH FLORIDA GAY NEWS, which was based in Wilton Manors, is featured in the new documentary “Inside the Oasis: The Story of South Florida’s Gay Mecca,” about Broward County’s journey from a once-hostile place for LGBTQ people to the mecca it is today. The film is narrated by SHARON GLESS.
MICHAEL K. LAVERS, international news editor for the WASHINGTON BLADE, traveled to Colombia to cover local LGBTQ community reaction to the U.S.’ seizure of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Lavers last reported from Colombia in 2021.
LOS ANGELES BLADE partnered with HYPERION LA and CINEPRIDE FILM FESTIVAL for a December 11, 2025, event at Hyperion Studios called Queer Room, an entertainment industry mixer for LGBTQ screenwriters, directors, actors, and other movie industry professionals.
NLGJA: THE ASSOCIATION OF LGBTQ+ JOURNALISTS has partnered with the TRANS JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION (TJA) to present the NLGJA x TJA Book Club. Its first meeting in 2026 will take place on February 4 on Zoom to discuss MICHAEL WATERS’ “The Other Olympians: Fascism, Queerness and the Making of Modern Sports.” On March 4, the group will discuss “The Pink Marine: One Boy’s Journey Through Boot Camp to Manhood” by GREG COPE WHITE. OUTCLIQUE, based in Wilton Manors, Fla., entered its 10th year of publication with its December 2025 issue.
PHILADELPHIA GAY NEWS, which celebrates its 50th anniversary later this year, is asking readers to submit their personal stories about what PGN has meant to them and how it has connected them to community. Responses will be featured in its upcoming 50th anniversary coverage.
