NICO LANG, an award-winning Los Angeles-based journalist, released his latest book, “American Teenager: How Trans Kids are Surviving Hate and Finding Joy in a Turbulent Era.”

LAVENDER MAGAZINE, based in suburban Minneapolis, announced that NOAH MITCHELL is its new managing editor.

OUTSFL, based in Wilton Manors, Fla., announced that several of its writers won awards during the annual Sunshine State Awards ceremony on August 17, 2024,. JASON PARSLEY, publisher of OutSFL, was named as a finalist in the General Commentary and Criticism category. MARY RASURA, editor of sister publication OutFAU (Florida Atlantic University), won several awards in the college division, including the award for General News Story. Rasura was also named as a finalist for College Journalist of the Year and Sports Story. CARTER MUDGETT, who has written for OutSFL, was named College Journalist of the Year for his work at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. That award is sponsored by OutSFL and the local chapter of NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists. Mudgett also won the award for Coverage of LGBTQ Issues.

OUTWORD, based in Sacramento, Calif., celebrated its 29th anniversary in its August 22, 2024, issue. The newspaper also published its 750th issue on August 8, 2024.

PHILADELPHIA GAY NEWS announced that it has received a $60,000 grant from Every Voice, Every Vote — a citywide coalition to launch journalism and civic engagement projects that connect residents to local government and track the progress of the city’s new administration. PGN is among 71 media and community organizations that have been awarded a total of $2.875 million by The Lenfest Institute for Journalism, which manages Every Voice, Every Vote.

WATERMARK, based in Orlando, Fla., celebrated its 30th anniversary in its August 29, 2024, issue.

WINDY CITY TIMES, based in Chicago, announced the launch of a new  weekly newsletter, NEWS ON Q, on the MailerLite platform. This is a migration of its current newsletter on MailChimp. JAKE WITTICH will be the new newsletter’s editor. The news outlet also celebrated its 39th anniversary on September 25, 2024.

THE WORD SAN DIEGO entered its second year of publication with its September 2024 issue.
